Maple Leaf Block Molli Sparkles |
The Maple Leaf block, a timeless emblem of Canadian heritage, has been reimagined by Marie of QuiltBee in her tutorial titled "The Leaves Are Beginning to Turn." Inspired by the Canadian Quilters Association's new logo, Marie crafted a 7.5-inch block that captures the essence of autumn's transformation.
Utilizing rich batik fabrics, Marie's design features a seven-pointed leaf with a pieced tip, offering a fresh take on traditional leaf blocks. Her comprehensive tutorial provides detailed instructions and templates, making it accessible for quilters of varying skill levels. Marie encourages experimentation with color schemes, suggesting that both monochromatic and scrappy versions can yield stunning results.
This Maple Leaf block not only pays homage to a national symbol but also serves as a versatile addition to various quilting projects, from potholders to larger quilt compositions. Marie’s creative process and the resulting block exemplify the beauty of seasonal change and the enduring appeal of classic quilt designs.
Marie:
"There are lots of different leaf blocks out there but it took a while to find a seven-pointed layout where the tip was pieced rather than foundation pieced (for whatever reason I didn't want to go there). At the end of the day, I decided to draft my own pattern."
